Makeup Tips to Make You Look Younger

Heart-shaped smear of creamAs you get older, your skincare routine changes quite a lot to account for the changes your skin is going through. The same should be true for your makeup routine. Unfortunately, you can’t get away with the same stuff that you could when you were younger, but you can use these makeup tips for a younger look!

Love Your Moisturizer

Having great skin is the best foundation for good makeup, so take care of your skin. Your moisturizer is the secret to success. Not only does it keep your skin feeling great, but it also provides an excellent foundation for any makeup that you put on. By having hydrated skin, you can avoid heavy powders that will just look cakey and bad.

Minimize the Appearance of Creases

Avoid using solid concealer, as the wax base will just look waxy and will even seep into your creases. By using a liquid concealer, you can control the flow better and have a much lighter and more subtle result.

Another really nifty way to use makeup to look youthful is to apply an eye-shadow base to your eyelids before applying eyeshadow. This gives the shadow something to stick onto without causing fine lines, which makes the appearance of lines very obvious. However, avoid using an eye cream before putting on your eyeshadow. These products are not designed as primers, and all that’s going to happen is your shadow is going to start smearing and bleeding.

Change Your Colors

Another easy switch is to use brown eyeliner instead of black. Again, it’s a warmer tone that has all the impact of black eyeliner, but in a more subtle, powerful way. Avoid using eyeliner on your bottom lid and instead focus on the upper lids. By using a cotton swab, you can lift the lines at the outer corners to create tiny little wings that open up your eyes while still being subtle.

Add Some Shimmer

Shimmer is a great way to bring some glow back to your skin. It’s an unfortunate fact that as we get older, our skin loses a bit of its luster. By using neutral colors, you can add some radiance without being garish. Less is more when it comes to shimmer, and a great trick is to add some to the inner corners of your eyes to make them bigger. It will also make your entire face look more radiant.

Avoid Lipstick

Lips tend to become thinner as we age, and creases are an inevitable result. Instead of drawing attention to this aging feature, use neutral tones that match your natural lip color. You can avoid bleeding by using a stain instead of a traditional creamy lipstick, and you can also use a clear gloss on top to add a bit of fullness and life to your lips.

Focus on Your Eyelashes

Your skin, your body, and even your eyelids start feeling the effects of gravity. In most cases, it’s not pretty. Eyelashes tend to flatten as you age, which can leave your eyes looking droopy. Luckily you can use your eyelashes to stop this downward trend by making sure they’re curling up.

The best way to stop this from happening is to use your trusty eyelash curler. It will give you that upward trend that makes your eyes look bigger, even if you avoid mascara.

If you do want to use mascara, try to avoid thickening mascara. It may make your eyelashes look thicker, but it’s incredibly heavy. This bulk will make your eyelashes even flatter. By using a lengthening mascara, you can highlight each lash and still make sure that they aren’t weighed down.

Use a Highlighter to Show Off Your Bone Structure

You can use a light sprinkling of blush along the highest point of your cheekbones to really bring them out.

Or, if you’re feeling brave, you can use some sheer highlighter to the cheekbones to avoid looking like you have a flat face. Try to stop yourself from going overboard on the highlighter. You’re aiming for a youthful look that is subtle.

Remember, less is more when it comes to makeup, particularly as you get older. Remember, you can look beautiful without spending too much. By going easy on these makeup tips for younger looks, you should easily turn back the clock on aging!
